An addition to the graphics upgrade and more playable character skins in single player, will there be an improvement to the animations, specifically the walking and crouching animations? I felt Sniper Elite 4 finally got it right, and I hope Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will have similar animations. Otherwise, the awkwardness of the animations used in the original V2 will kill the immersion of replaying V2 after two years of playing 4.

Also, will there be any updates regarding difficulty and authenticity, such as the inclusion of an Authentic Plus mode or authentic attachments as featured in 4?

Sniper Elite 4 didn't really have weapon customization other than changing skins. Sniper Elite 3, however, had the ability to swap out parts of your rifle -- scope, bolt, trigger -- to improve its stats in certain areas while decreasing stats in other areas to keep things balanced. I have no idea why this option was omitted in Sniper Elite 4.

Here are my suggestions to add more authenticity to the series (at least for that difficulty level):

Switching Weapons Animation

  • The original Sniper Elite had realistic animations for switching weapons. You had to fully sling your sniper rifle, for example, before retrieving your SMG or pistol. Sniper Elite 3 and 4 opts instead for a quick animation of your weapon nearly instantaneously appearing in your hand once selected. I understand that gamers want weapon selection to be quick, but for those of us who crave authenticity, give us the option to have the full weapon switching animation play out like in the first game.

Weapon Mechanics and Sounds

Bring back Sniper Elite 3's weapons system:

  • Rifles were noticeably louder and the vibration feedback in the controller was greater.
  • Reloading sounds played through the PS4 controller's speaker
  • RIFLE CUSTOMIZATION!!!

Player and Enemy AI Health

  • I would love to see nonlethal wounds play out more realistically. Instead of having the player and the AI shake off those hits as if there were mosquito bites, why not have the the hit affect the player and enemy's physical capabilities? For example, a hit in the arm would impact aiming. A hit in the leg would eliminate the ability to sprint. (Bonus points if a limping animation could be added!)  A shot to the torso that doesn't impact a vital organ should impact breathing -- higher BPM (more scope wobble) and the inability to perform empty lung.
  • Instead of having bandages and medkits restore health, why not just have them stop the bleeding like they do in real life. On the authentic difficulty especially, this would force to player to really try his best to avoid getting shot because whatever impairments he receives during the mission must be endured for the entire duration of the mission.
Inventory
  • Make weapons and items have weight to them. If a player decides to carry more items in the field, that should have an impact on movement speed. This will force the player to make a choice on speed vs utility. This is what real-life soldiers have to contend with every time they go into the field. (I'm an Army veteran, so I speak from firsthand experience.)
  • Bring back weapon-specific ammunition. If I'm carrying the Springfield, then only rounds specifically design for that weapon should work. I dislike the move to generic ammunition. I miss the days when I had to be more selective with my targets because I knew the likelihood of finding ammunition for my American weapon was slim. If I ran out of ammo for my weapon, I was forced to pick up an enemy weapon, one that I wasn't as familiar with. That adds a strategic element to the game.
Melee Combat

I'd like to see a skill-based melee system implemented, one that forces the player to actually fight instead of relying on insta-kill animations. It gives us a consequence for trying to fight enemies upclose. Sniper Elite 3 sorta had this, but it wasn't expanded upon in 4, unfortunately.

I created an account just to respond to this thread because this thread echoes my sentiments exactly. I like Sniper Elite 4 and the Sniper Elite series in general -- I own every game in the series minus the Zombie spinoffs. However, I feel that certain design decisions in Sniper Elite 4 -- likely implemented to appeal to a broader audience as seems to be the route many tactical shooter franchises are taking -- will continue to hurt its long-term appeal for us original fans of the series.  If I may, I wanted to offer some suggestions that could possibly be patched into Sniper Elite 4 to make the authentic difficulty feel more, well, authentic:

  • Bring back weapon-specific ammunition -  As it stands now, you can clear an entire level of 95+ enemies with ease because of what is essentially unlimited ammunition. I believe this practice started in Sniper Elite 3, the practice of having general ammunition types -- rifle ammunition, SMG ammunition, pistol ammunition, etc. -- instead of weapon-specific types. Sniper Elite 1 and V2, if I'm not mistaken, had weapon-specific ammunition. Knowing that the ammunition for my specific weapons is limited, that decreases the likelihood of me getting into unnecessary firefights because I know I can't always outgun any enemy forces that come my way. I loved how I was sometimes forced to grab an enemy weapon in the earlier Sniper Elites because my weapon ran out of ammunition. However, the downside to that was having to use a weapon I wasn't as familiar with, just like in real life.
  • Bullet lethality - As others have already stated, you can take quite a few hits and still survive. I recently rented Ghost recon Wildlands. While I generally dislike the game overall, one area where I will give them credit is the bullet lethality. Even with the regenerating health model, which I hate and I'm glad Sniper Elite got rid of  it -- it is still easy to die in that game when playing on the highest difficulty setting.
  • Eliminate or severely limit the number of items found in the field - What fun is mulling over the decision of what to carry if whatever items I had to leave out will be easily found in the field anyway?
  • Eliminate the XP counter --  What I liked about the authentic difficulty in Sniper Elite 3 is that it got rid of the XP counter. It kills immersion when I see that graphic pop up on screen every time I get a kill. True snipers kill for one of two reasons: to achieve an objective or to eliminate an immediate threat to one's life. I feel the XP counter encourages players to kill for no other reason than to get as much XP as possible. Leave that for the casual players; let the authentic players focus on the mission.
